Privacy policy

This app collects, stores and transmits no personal data. The developer receives no information about you and operates no server of any kind.

It does not use the network at all. Sixteen years of tide are computed in advance and shipped inside the app, so there is nothing to fetch and nothing to send: the app works in flight mode and behaves identically whether the phone has a connection or not.

None. The app does not request your name, email address, phone number, contacts, device identifiers or advertising identifiers. There are no accounts and no sign-in.

It also does not know where you are. The app declares no location permission and never asks the phone for a position. It shows one place — Ko Samui — whose coordinates are written into the app itself, and it would show the same chart on a beach in Thailand or on a train in Berlin.

The only thing you can tell it is which date to draw, by dragging the chart or picking one. That choice is a number in memory while the app is open; see section [04].

There is none. The app does not declare the android.permission.INTERNET permission, so it is technically incapable of opening a connection — the capability is absent, not merely unused, and no update to a server, no change of mind and no bug can make it send something.

Where the numbers came from is a separate question, and the answer is that the work happened before the app was built. The tide was fitted from published sea level data and checked against a tide gauge and a tidal atlas on the developer's machine; the result is a 274 KB table of hourly heights packed into the installed app. Your phone reads that file. It does not contact the services the table was derived from, and they are never told that you exist.

Nothing beyond the app itself. There are no settings, no history, no cache and no files the app writes — it does not even remember which date you were looking at, and opens on today every time.

Android's automatic backup and device-to-device transfer are switched off as well. There is nothing to back up, and this way that stays true if the app ever gains something to remember.

None occurs. The app contains no advertising networks, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking library. Nothing leaves the phone, so there is nothing that could be shared.

The app declares no Android permissions whatsoever. Its manifest lists none — not the internet, not location, not storage, not notifications — which is the shortest permission list an app can have and the one you can check for yourself before installing anything.

The app is safe for all ages and collects no data from children, or from anyone else.

Any updated version will be published at this same address with a new effective date.

One change is already foreseen and is worth naming rather than leaving to be discovered. A wave forecast is planned, and unlike the tide it cannot be computed in advance — it would have to be fetched, which means the app would declare the internet permission and a weather service would see the connection your phone makes. If that version ships, this page will say so, and it will say so before the version is released rather than after.
